Mechanics need not worry – Laser Tools knows what you want

Calling all mechanics around the country (and the wannabes, too): Laser Tools knows just how busy workshops can get nowadays and the company has figured out a way to save us all some incredibly precious time.

I’m starting to think the Laser Tools innovation team never actually sleeps… The company, which has been changing the UK’s automotive sector one tool at a time since 1998, reads the industry’s needs like no other and consistently puts out high-spec products designed to make easy work of difficult and awkward jobs.

Their latest is a pair of specially shaped air-chisel punches (part number 8307) specifically designed to easily release and then re-stake crush-type axle nuts found on a variety of vehicles.

Using the punches with the air-chisel makes this a quick and easy procedure that reduces the chance of accidentally damaging the axle shaft and threads – is there a worse feeling than finally getting one thing fixed only to realise something else’s broken in the process?

The kit includes a removal punch with a curved release tip to disengage the stake (crimp) and thus release the axle nut. On replacement, the second flat-bladed punch is used to reset the stake squarely and positively.

Though this may at first glance seem like a highly specialised tool, its applications include wheel bearings, prop-shaft, and drive-flange stake nuts across many makes of vehicles. The punches are 178mm in length with a 10mm shank diameter and have been manufactured from SCM440 chromium molybdenum steel.

Available now from your Laser Tools stockist, and typically priced at £44.21 (including VAT), this is a piece of kit that was especially designed to make your life easier – so why would you keep struggling?

You can find out more about it on Laser Tools’ website, where you’ll also be able to browse through their full range of high-quality hand tools.
