By Marta Macedo Thursday, 27th October 2022 0 Comments Burg-Wächter Is Keeping Our Communities Safe One Project At A Time Life just got a little bit easier for the Croydon scouts now that Burg-Wächter has found a solution to keeping all the members’ valuables safe from prying eyes (and hands). As Europe’s largest safe and post box manufacturer, it’s safe to say (see what I did there?) that Burg-Wächter know their way around security and, as a way of giving back to the community and recognising the work and time that volunteers commit to community projects, the German manufacturers have set up the Secure Communities Scheme. Firm believers that the people around the country who are doing their bit for their community should not have to worry about the security of their premises, equipment or storage areas, Burg-Wächter set up this scheme to give regional community leaders and volunteers the chance to win a security kit worth up to £200 for their organisation, The latest winners are the Croydon Scouts, which have recently received one of the company’s German-engineered high-quality electronic PointSafe safes in order to provide immediate improvement to the security of valuables on the site. With its ability to be pre-set to ‘hotel mode’, the safe is ideal for use by visitors to the site in the same manner as traditional hotel room safes. Jim Clements, the volunteer quartermaster for the Croydon District Scouts Pinewood Activities Centre, comments: “This is one of two centres delivered by Croydon Scouts and is our only premises dedicated to providing outdoor adventurous activities, camping and paddle sports to young people from across the Croydon, Bromley and South East London area. Although the site has a good security perimeter, there is always a risk with personal property and valuables being left and stored while owners are actively involved in other areas. Burg-Wächter’s donation of a good quality electronic hotel type safe will enable event organisers and site users to deposit valuables and electronics safely in a secure location during their stay or participation in activities. We’re really grateful for the company’s support.” Croydon Scouts currently has over 2000 youth members, spread over 37 different groups, and provides vital community support under its ‘Skills for Life’ programme. The organisation is in the process of a major programme of works to upgrade their facilities and activity bases, as a way of ensuring that the activities they deliver provide real life skills. These include paddle sports, archery, air rifle, tomahawk ranges, camping areas, backwoods cooking and bushcraft skills, amongst others. Speaking of the process of applying to the Secure Communities Scheme, Jim says: “Applying for the equipment was really simple. We went onto the Burg-Wächter website and followed the link to its Secure Communities Scheme. Then all that was needed was to direct some details to an email address given there. I’m very pleased we did!” Any regional initiative that is run by or supports the local community can apply: from local sports groups to healthcare programmes, town charities and school after-hour clubs, Burg-Wächter wants to hear from any organisation that is run by or supports the local community and has a specific security need. The company’s Secure Communities Scheme is its way of saying thank you to community leaders for supporting people in their area and successful applicants will each receive a tailored security kit to help secure property, premises, equipment or storage areas to the value of £150 – £200 at retail price. The Secure Communities Scheme is an ongoing initiative, which has already helped 105 regional causes through the provision of over 2,000 pieces of security equipment.
