The Liverpool Tool Library Is Changing How We Think About Our Tools

If you’re reading this and thinking that you didn’t even know there was such a thing as a tool library, you’re most certainly not alone.

Though they’ve been around for the better part of the last fifty years, tool libraries are still relatively new organisations that aim to reduce unnecessary waste by fixing and refurbishing old and broken tools and giving them a new life, while also guaranteeing a right of access to anyone who might need tools but isn’t able to afford them.

We stopped by the Liverpool Tool Library for a chat with the volunteers who run it and could not have been more impressed with the effort these guys (and girl) have put into this project and the results they’ve achieved.

With an ever-growing donation-based inventory that currently surpasses 800 tools, this library works just as any other would: you sign up for a membership (typically around £20 a year) and after that, you can borrow whichever tools you might need for that DIY project you’ve been dying to get started on. That’s it – it’s that easy!

Watch the video below to find out how Imogen, Ally and Jamie got involved in the tool library world, what projects the members have been working on and what the future holds for this peculiar library.
